You Need Spiritual Discernment
As believers, we are called by YHWH (God) to have spiritual discernment. Just what do I mean when I say spiritual discernment? It is calling on Ruach Ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit) to lead or give direction on a matter. It is how the Spirit shows us what YHWH wants His people to do and be. It is the ability to make decisions that are godly as well as right evaluations according to the standards YHWH has set forth in the truth of His Holy Scriptures. . (John 16: 12-15)
There is much deception going on today in all areas of our lives that we need to be able to determine what is really truth!
You may be saying to yourself, “How am I able to see and understand as YHWH wants me to?” You absolutely can! But it doesn’t just happen. It takes spending time in His word and in His presence listening. He reveals who He is and how He thinks in His word! Get to know it. In the days to come, your very lives may very well depend on it.
Who Is Speaking to You?
Discernment is the most critical in recognizing when YHWH is speaking to you. We hear a myriad of voices in any given day— from co-workers, neighbors, the media, and some from within ourselves (memories, emotions, or desires). But the most important voice is that of Y’shua through the Ruach.
Do you know the sound of Ruach’s voice? The Scriptures tell us it is still and small (1 Kings 19:12). Few of us ever get quiet enough to hear Him. Y’shua also said that He is our Shepherd, and as His sheep, we will know His voice (John 10:4).
You must always remember that Ruach will never speak something to you that goes against His Word. No matter who the person may be or how godly or wise they may seem. If that person says something that is contrary to what the Bible says, they are speaking totally out of their own opinion, not out of the wisdom of God. To determine if it truly is Ruach speaking to you, check the what they said against Scripture—and not just against one isolated verse that may seem to verify or confirm what you want the message to be. You need to weigh the message you are receiving against the whole of YHWH’s truth.
It is not what we think we perceive, or what others tell us is the truth that really matters, but what YHWH says is the accurate perception and reality of truth in any situation or teaching.
Spiritual discernment is something we should desire and seek. It does not instantly and automatically flood the inner being the moment we receive Y’shua (Jesus) as our Savior. Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) fills us with His presence, and He guides us into all truth, but the ability to discern comes with the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2) We should make the psalmist’s prayer our own: “Teach me good judgment and knowledge”. (Psalm 119:66)
Throughout our lives, we must rely upon the Ruach Ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit) to be the source of truth in us. It is He who determines our spiritual gifts, instructs us in the Word of God, empowers and strengthens us, and is our Helper in all situations. He reveals what Y’shua (Jesus) would do and say in any given situation, enabling us to know the truth in all circumstances. (John 14:16)
Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) will instruct us in all situations during our lifetime. However, we must continue to ask for guidance and study His word as we will never fully grasp everything there is to know. As more and more of God’s truths are planted into the framework of your mind, the more clearly you will be able to see and hear the meaning behind what someone is teaching, preaching or saying. With discernment it will become obvious.
His gift of discernment is available to every believer. But because it is a divine gift, we must enthusiastically receive it by faith. We must believe that when we ask God to show us what is counterfeit and what is real, He will reveal exactly what we need to know so we will be able to make wise godly choices.
The truth of YHWH is like a very bright light. Ask Him to shine His truth on any circumstance, doctrine, idea or teaching that seems questionable to you.
Discerning Halloween
Now I ask you all to call on this discernment as to whether or not as believers, we should be allowing our impressionable children to be ‘celebrating” Halloween. By celebrating, I am speaking of the activity of ‘trick or treat’ or participating in anything glorifying this ungodly holiday including church celebrations of any kind. Having your children dress up as biblical characters or calling it a Harvest Festival does not change the fact that it is still a Halloween party! Just ask the children…they will tell you they went to a Halloween party at the church!
Say what you will, but Halloween has nothing to do with Yeshua (Jesus). Is this pagan holiday and all of its ramifications what we want to instill in our innocent children? But you say, “I don’t want to deny my child fun and besides all the other children are participating. I don’t want them to feel different.” Are we supposed to be of this world or are we supposed to be different than those of this world? Aren’t we to teach our children the ways of Yahweh (God)? And frankly, I am appalled at adults, who call themselves Christians, and also participate in this ungodly holiday by going to Hunted Houses and the like. God forbid! Oh, that’s right He already has in Jeremiah 10:2, and He has not changed His mind either.
If you are offended with this writing about Halloween, then don’t you think this should tell you something?
Perhaps it’s time to do your due diligence and research this pagan holiday. Go to your Christian bookstore and see what they have on it. It might surprise you! It’s time to use your God given discernment about this and protect your children and yourselves.
My final question to you about Halloween… “If Yeshua (Jesus) were walking the earth today, would He be participating in this ungodly pagan day? I don’t just think not! I know not!
