Time is Fleeting
Resting in the Shalom of Yahweh
“So teach us to number our days, so that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12
Time
Time is a precious commodity and yet it seems to fly by no matter what we do. We often feel like we never have enough time to accomplish all that we desire, so where has it gone? As the minutes, hours, days and years slip by, it can be hard to keep up with the pace of life.
The Bible tells us in Psalms 90:12 “Teach us to number our days, so that we may get a heart of wisdom” (TLV ). This verse reminds us that while time is fleeting, Yahweh (God) knows how long each one of our days will be and how much time He has given us. So rather than wishing for more time or lamenting its passing, let us use the gift wisely and appreciate each moment as if it were our last.
The book of Psalms is filled with thoughts and reflections on life by the prophet Moses. He ponders over the fleeting nature of human life, but ultimately praises Yahweh (God) for His everlasting power. Our lives are bound by time, causing us to be constrained in ways we cannot fathom. We often take our finite existence as a given and become rushed as a result, always striving to do more in the limited time we have.
No Limitations
Yahweh (God), however, is not bound by such limitations. The Exalted Creator does not experience the same constraints that we do. He has no need for haste nor worry about what will become of Him when his time comes to an end. As Moses well knew, God is eternal and timeless. He is ever present and ever powerful – something we should all strive to remember in our daily lives.
The idea of giving all your moments over to Yahweh’s (God’s) care may seem daunting or even overwhelming, but it does not demand that we give up control. Instead, it requires us to put forth a daily effort to trust in God’s plan for us, radiating out from a single moment. In essence, you are allowing Him to work through you in order for His purpose to be fulfilled on Earth. The key is to rest in Him as you go about fulfilling your destiny He has purposed for your life.
Prayer
Yahweh, thank you for the days you have given me so far. Help me to rest in You and to trust in Your plan for my life so that I might accomplish Your purposes. Amen
